3 Corruption does not Pay

Let's do a cost-benefit analysis of corruption. A 45 year-old unit chief for example, who graduated from high-school and worked for 25years, received a bribe of 5,000,000 yen. What he might lose if dismissed is outlined below.

Salary 90,000,000 yen(15 yrs from 46-60, at 6,000,000 yen /yr)

Pension 40,000,000 yen(20 yrs from 61-80, at 2,000,000 yen /yr)

Total 130,000,000 yen

Financial loss on this scale, in addition to the mental and social sufferings that might entail, makes involving in corruption entirely unworthwhile.

How various countries deal with corruption is outlined in the table below. (Note: Severe corruption refers to where, in addition to taking bribes, the official has also, in relation to the bribe, behaved in an improper manner regarding their work, by not doing what they should have done.)
