CHAPETER IV HOW TO GUIDE JUNIOR STAFF

One of the responsibilities of supervisors is to develop junior staff. Supervisors must develop their staff in order to accomplish the functions of their unit and build human resources for the entire organization.

4-1 Human Resource Development

Some supervisors show no interest in the development of their employees. They are likely to leave their development to the hands of training officers or the employees themselves. Supervisors must understand the importance and necessity of staff development, acquire effective and efficient training skills and try to develop the abilities of their staff.

4-3 Identify Training Needs

Training is important. With no plan as to how to implement training, training may be conducted in a haphazard manner or employees sent to outside training courses without consideration being given to their preferences. Training usually requires employees to take time off work and thus should be conducted effectively and efficiently. For this purpose, training needs must be identified first. Supervisors who manage work and observe the performance of employees first hand are in the best position to determine their training needs.

(Discussion Point)

・How may supervisors better identify the training needs of their employees ?
