Mr.Sharman commented on clause 8 in document 10 stressing the difficulties to get things changed in the IMO documents. He said that the official liaison with IMO was still not entirely clear and will have to be firmly established.
Mr.Martinsen said that he had not received the necessary IMO documents and had therefore not been in a position to contribute to any extent, for which he apologized.
Mr.Rebaudengo said that based on a full understanding of how the IMO works the plan was now to arrange a meeting with the relevant people of the IMO to establish the correct way of giving the technical inputs from TC 18 to IMO and vice versa.
The Chairman thanked Mr.Sharman for his report.
10.2 Liaisons with other IEC Committees
Mr.Borstlap referred to a document from a joint WG of TC 18 and TC 77 dealing with power quality, which he thought, was of horizontal interest and gave a rather big framework. The document reference is 02/1026/RCA:ACEC Joint WG on Power Quality.
Mr.Shannan wondered if any WG could get the right to access the documents of other WGs on the IEC document server, and Mr.Coupy confirmed that subject to permission from the relevant National Committee allocating the password needed for that, it is indeed possible. It was decided to request the Maintenance Team, once they are set up, to look into this matter of power quality requirements.
Mr.Borstlap accepted to continue to be the Convenor of WG 19 which will be converted into a Maintenance Team.
10.3 Liaisons with ISO Committees: TC 8, TC 67, TC 188
18(Houston/See)11
Mr.Xia in his capacity of liaison Officer to ISO/TC 8 referred in particular to resolutions 8 to 11 of his report, which mentioned various items of interest to TC 18. There were at least 15 such items which he partly touched upon.
Mr.Martinsen underlined that quite clearly several items were of significant importance to TC 18 in the presentation of Mr.Xia as brought out in document 18(Houston/Sec)11.
Mr.Rebaudengo pointed out that the activities of ISO/TC 8 with regard to computers fell outside of the work undertaken by TC 18/WG 16, as the computer systems referred to were intended for ship management, not engineering control and instrumentation.
On proposal by the Chairman Mr.Rebaudengo as Convenor of WG 16 accepted to obtain the relevant documents from ISO/TC 8 referred to in Mr.Xia's report. WG 16 will review them to determine whether there is any duplication of work.
The Chairman thanked Mr.Xia for his comprehensive report.
10.4 Liaisons with other Organizations: CIRM,IMO,IACS/WP/EL
18(Houston/Secretariat)30
18(Houston/Sec)14
The Chairman referred to the change in the IACS representation, now Nr.Alexander Musteykis, and to the brief report of the outgoing representative, Mr.Bogdan Ciundziewicki, as per document 18(Houston/Sec)14.
The committee noted the information given.
The Chairman then adjourned the meeting until 09h00 the next day.
