4. U. N. Peace-Keeping Operations (PKO) and Humanitarian International Relief Operations
In August 1992, Japan put into force the Law Concerning Cooperation for the United Nations Peace-Keeping Operation and Other Operations. Under the provisions of this law, Japan shall cooperate appropriately and promptly with United Nations Peace-Keeping Operations and humanitarian international relief operations, for the purpose of contributing actively to international peace efforts led by the United Nations.
JMSA carries out cooperative operations for international peace centering on humanitarian relief activities. In this regard, the Agency cooperates by dispatching its personnel, ships, and aircraft and providing other support to the International Peace Cooperation Corps, to the extent that its ability to carry out its primary duties is not hindered. In addition, the Agency, upon receiving a commission from the Chief of the International Peace Cooperation Headquarters, transports disaster victims and others using its ships and aircraft, to the extent that its ability to carry out its primary duties is not hindered.
