* to provide a focus for the marine engine room simulator community,
* to support the activities of IMLA.
It seeks to achieve these aims by promoting international contact and
co-operation between engine room simulator operators, researchers, commercial simulator
manufacturers and courseware developers, software publishers, relevant government
administrations, international and national maritime organisations and the shipping
industry
At the heart of ICERS are the academic staff and trainers world-wide,
who seek to support the students' learning through the use of simulator technology.
The main objectives which ICERS sets out achieve are:
1. To continuously review:
* the most recent developments in simulator technology,
* developments in relevant areas of the marine engineering curriculum,
* current thinking regarding the required technical and managerial
competencies, and qualifications of marine engineers,
* developments in the pedagogic use of simulators and simulations,
* the needs of operators and trainers,
* the implications of relevant international legislative developments.
2. To identify problematic areas of common interest and encourage the
formulation and presentation of possible solutions for discussion.
3. To create a better understanding of the role and uses of engine room
simulators (full mission/full task, part-task or desk-top PC based) for marine training
and assessment.
4. To explore how to help simulator operator make effective use of the
technology to facilitate student learning and achievement of course objectives.
