rapport with the students. Campus environment can also influence
students' attitudes. A clean and well maintained campus can help develop positive
attitudes towards cleanliness. The organisation's culture is another factor. A good safety
culture, mutual respect and punctuality, to name a few, are aspects which can positively
influence students' thinking and attitudes.
Discipline is an area greatly emphasized at ALAM. The strict routine,
parades, marching, morning colours and flag raising ceremony. Specific activities designed
to enhance values are also conducted. This is in addition to the aforementioned factors
which also help to enhance values.
A spiritual enhancement programme is intended to enhance a person's
moral and ethical values. For the Muslims, being the majority group, weekly religious
activities involving guest lectures are conducted on wide ranging topics. For non-Muslims,
transport is provided every weekend for them to go to churches and temples in accordance
with the individual's faith. All students are encouraged to enhance their spiritual
awareness.
To create awareness and the dangers of drug abuse, a two-day programme
is conducted by officials of the anti drug organisation and the state security council.
Welfare and community work are also included in the curriculum where
students undertake the cleaning of village graveyard, mosque, beach as well as visits to
old folks home and centres for handicapped children. Blood donation is another activity
carried out on a regular basis with the General Hospital.
The objective of these activities is to instill the values of a caring
society whereby students are encouraged to put the welfare and well-being of others before
self.
