Information technology offers means for producing ships documentation
in an interactive electronic way. This will have effect on both the suppliers internal
production of the documentation, and for the distribution of the "as built
documentation" as a part of integrated electronic system. The effort will contribute
to an increased quality of the documentation itself and on updating when changes are made.
User requirements are of utmost importance in the development of these
solutions, but even more important are the requirements for practical use on board when,
for example, performing a maintenance job in the engine room.
As a sub-product when producing the electronic documentation, the
supplier can develop efficient Computer Based Training systems (CBT) for the specific
equipment.
Use of suppliers' information and diagnostic tools in the operational
phase for optimization and fault diagnosis will support the crew on board in difficult
situations. Different solutions based on experience from land and aircraft installations,
will be developed and evaluated through the programme period. This means: Maintenance
strategies with widespread use of support from suppliers.
Human resources
This area is in focus due to the situation with lack of qualified
personnel. Efficient methods for evaluation of crew qualifications and fitness for work
onboard will be developed, witch also includes Computer Based Training (CBT) systems for
on-board and shore-based training, including routine and critical operations, as shown in
Figure 6.
