International focus on Competence requirements, through IMO with the STCW convention set new demands for training systems for seafarers. This has resulted in projects for system developments for selection and documentation of individual crew member competence, and training programs adapted to the individual. Requirements for "Familiarization" has been a driving force for using Computer Based Training (CBT) systems on board ships.

Information Logistics

The suppliers involvement is not limited to the operational phase due to the fact that a lot of the information used in ship operation has been produced in the design and building phase of the ship. This requires that one has to involve the supplier early to get full effect of building documentation, shown in Figure 5.
