The new ISM requirement for "Quality management", will have
implications for the IT solutions both on board and in the shipowners office.
The system has been developed to reduce accident rates via feedback of
experience from accidents and near accidents. This includes functions for
- Reporting of accident
- Reporting on non-conformities
- Means for improvement shall be implemented.
Information handling as a part of the Quality Management system and for
selection of preventive actions are important elements in the future.
Inspection
The programme has one project dealing with information to authorities
and classification societies on condition of vital parts comparison with acceptance
criteria, in order to simplify and increase operating and inspection efficiency.
Suppliers' involvement in ship operation
The suppliers of equipments and of software systems are involved in
different tasks in the programme. The most important tasks are;
* Extended services and life-time system support.
* Development of electronic documentation and manuals.
* Use of suppliers' information and diagnostic tools in operational
phases for optimization and fault diagnosis.
* Maintenance strategies with widespread use of support from suppliers.
