Interpreting the Results of a Medical Examination
1. No abnormalities - No abnormalities were found, Please be sure not to neglect a health examination once a year.
2. Slight abnormalities were discovered - Slight abnormalities were found, but none serious enough to merit observation or treatment. Please make sure to take a health examination once a year.
3. Observation Recommended - Abnormalities were discovered. Observation of the progress of these abnormalities is recommended.
4. Treatment is necessary. -Treatment is judged necessary.
5. Continuing Treatment - Please continue to take treatment.
6. A second round of examinations is recommended. - A second round of examinations is recommended.
1. INDEX OF BODY FAT
As of April 1st of 2001,the standards of the BMI index have been changed.
Standard Body Weight - Height in meters x Height in meters x 22.
Scale of Body Weight Valences
Underweight - 18.5 and under
Normal - 18.5-24.9
Overweight - 25.0-29.9
Obese - 30.0 and over
An overweight condition is linked to the occurrence of high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiac diseases and the hardening of arteries. Please compare your own weight to the standard weight, eat sensibly and exercise.
2. RESULTS OF BLOOD TESTS
As of April 1st of 2001, the standard levels for these tests have been changed.
FUNCTIONS OF THE BLOOD
Red Blood Cell Count - A decrease in the number of red blood cells impairs the transport of oxygen to the body and is called anemia. However, an excess of red blood cells results in a condition in which arteries and veins are easily clogged.
Hemoglobin - This substance is carried by the red blood cells and plays the key role in oxygen transport. This index points toward possible anemia.
Ht - This is a test measuring the capacity for red blood cells in the blood. It also is an index for anemia.
White Blood Cell Count - This index is influenced by the absence or presence of infectious disease, and is an indicator for leukemia. It also points toward the presence or absence of spleen abnormalities and conditions of the bone marrow.
Platelet Count - Platelets are used by the body to stop bleeding. The number of platelets lowers in conditions of liver cirrhosis and bleeding tendency. As the number of platelets rise, the probability of thrombosis increases.
FUNCTIONS OF THE LIVER
GOT - A high score on this index points toward heart and liver damage. GOT is in the liver and heart tissue, as well as cardiac muscle.
GPT - GPT is found in the liver and points toward damage of the liver and gall bladder.
Alpha-GTP - Alcohol-related liver conditions causes the Alpha- GTP index to rise.
Ch-E - Sudden Onset Hepatitis and Liver Cirrhosis cause this index to fall. Excess of intake of foods, and alcohol, or a diabetic condition, which cause lipids to accumulate in the liver, makes the index rise. Nephrosis also causes this index to rise.
ALP - A high score on this index points toward diseases that hinder the secretion of gall, such as gallstones or cancer of the gall. Diseases of the bones and intestine also cause this index to rise.
LDH - A high concentration of this enzyme, which is found in the liver, is an indicator for leukemia, malignant tumors, heart, liver and kidney damage.
ZTT - A high reading on this index indicates chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, collagen disease or chronic infectious disease.
Combined Bilirubin - A high reading on this index indicates damage to the liver, or a blocked gall bladder.
LIPIDS
T-cho <Combined Cholesterol> - Although cholesterol is necessary to maintain the lipids of the body, an excess of cholesterol leads to the hardening of arteries, diseases of the endocrine system, anemia and interferes with the absorption of nutrients.
TG - This index is easily influenced by the contents of a meal. A high reading indicates excess of alcohol and intake of lipids, lack of exercise and may eventually damage the pancreas as well.
HDL-cho - Known as good cholesterol, it works to prevent the hardening of arteries. A low concentration of HDL cholesterol contributes to the hardening of arteries.
FUNCTIONS OF THE KIDNEY
BUN - A high reading on this index indicates damage to the kidneys, ketosis of protein inside the body due to fever, consumption or infectious disease.
CRE - a high reading on this index accurately indicates damage to the kidneys.
BLOOD SUGAR
Blood Sugar - A high level of glucose in the blood may indicate a diabetic condition, however, this reading is influenced by the contents of meals.
HbAic<Hemoglobin Aic> - This index indicates the level of glucose in the blood over a period of one-two months and is not easily influenced by the contents of meals. If the reading is high, a diabetic condition is suspected.
PANCREATIC FUNCTION
Amylase - A high reading on this index indicates the denaturation of enzymes that digest starches in the pancreas, and thus inflammation of the pancreas.
GOUT
Uric Acid - A high level of uric acid is a symptom of gout, which results from the excessive intake of meat, alcohol, and fruit, is accompanied by a drop in the level of kidney function and also by pain in the joints.
SERUM PROTEIN
Combined Protein - Over 80 kinds of protein form this combined protein index. Abnormalities in the functions of the construction, supply, denaturation and excretion of protein, which result from a wide rage of diseases, are reflected in this index.
Albumin - Albumin accounts for 50-70% of the combined protein index. A low score on this index indicates damage to the liver, kidney, thyroid gland, and insufficient nutrition.
OCCULT BLOOD IN THE DIGESTIVE TRACT
A positive reading on this index indicates bleeding in the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, small intestine, large intestine or anal area. Disorders in the large intestine, including polyps are frequent causes of a positive reading.
3. RESULTS OF ELECTROCARDIOGRAM
(taken during angina pectoris decubitus)
Irregular contractions of the heart, arrythmia, tachycardia, angina pectoris and myocardial infarcation are shown by this test. Those who are judged in need of further examinations, tests or treatment, Please take the appropriate measures at a nearby hospital.
4. HEARING EXAMINATION
Those who are judged in need of further examinations or treatment, please consult a nearby hospital.
5. RESULTS OF BLOOD PRESSURE EXMINATION AND URINE TEST.
RESULTS OF BLOOD PRESSURE TESTING
High Blood Pressure - High Blood Pressure contributes to the hardening of the arteries, ischemia, and apoplexy. Incidences of low blood pressure, in cases where there are no ill effects perceived by the patient, need not cause distress.
Low Blood Pressure - When measuring blood pressure, factors such as whether or not the patient is in an excited state or has just exercised influence the rest angina and therefore the reading of the blood pressure. It is difficult to judge the possible pathological nature of low blood pressure from one testing.
RESULTS OF URINE TESTING
Uric Sugar - In healthy persons, there is only a residual amount of sugar to be found in urine, and this amount is not enough for sugar to register on the test. If you are positive for this test, please go to a nearby hospital and get tested once again. If you are judged in need of a comprehensive exam, please arrange to take a Glucose Load Test and a Blood Sugar Test.
Uric Protein - Protein in urine is usually a symptom of disorders of the kidney, but can indicate other kinds of disease. Also, healthy persons may sometimes pass an amount of protein in their urine without it being an indication of an unhealthy condition. Those who are positive for this test, please go to a nearby hospital and take a comprehensive examination.
Urobilinogen - Damage to the liver causes a strong reaction in this test indicating urobilinogen in the urine. The strength of the reaction depends on the severity of the liver damage. Those who are marked (+), please take a second round of testing at a hospital. Those who are marked (-), please retake this examination at a hospital as a negative reading may indicate blockage of the gall bladder. Those who are marked (正) are in a healthy condition.
Occult Blood - In the urine of healthy persons, an extremely miniscule amount of red blood cells can sometimes be found. However, blood in the urine is proof of urinary occult blood. An abnormality in the urinary tract, kidney or bladder is suspected. Inflammation of the bladder or urinary tract, or calculus is a probable cause for occult blood.
6. RESULTS OF CHEST X-RAY
Pronounced Lung Marking - The shadow from the pulmonary hilum which branches out into the lungs is darker and more pronounced than usual. Heart and Lung abnormalities are suspected.
Direct Exposure - An abnormality is suspected. Please arrange to have a direct X-ray examination and a more comprehensive examination.
Extension of the Aorta - The aorta is extended due to high blood pressure and hardening of the arteries.
Expanded Heart - Due to high blood pressure or heart disease, the heart is shown in the X-ray to be larger than the normal, healthy size.
Obsolete Tuberculosis - Marks from healed tuberculosis, pleurisy, or surgery are visible.
