Xinjiang Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Program
SYLFF Program:
Applicants for fellowships submit applications to their departments who, after initial screening, forward the applications to the steering committee. Selection is based on the following criteria: academic excellence, capability to conduct independent research, creativity, character, and relevance of the applicant's proposal to Xinjiang's social and economic development. Fellowships are usually for US$70-100. To date seventy-six (76) fellowships have been awarded.

The Cross-Century Young Leaders Education Program
SYLFF Program:
The program provides support for graduate students, graduate researchers, and young scholars with high potential for future leadership in international affairs and in their research activities. Fellowships are available to students in the international relations program focusing on international politics, international economy, international law, and ethnicity.
Selection Process:
SYLFF fellowships are announced by notices to relevant departments, institutes and research centers; announcements in the university newsletter; posters; and announcements made through university's broadcasting network. Applicants apply to their departments, institutes or research centers who conduct initial selection. Final decisions are made by the SYLFF steering committee. There are two types of fellowships: 1) support for academic research, and 2) awards for outstanding academic research. To date eighty (80) students have received SYLFF fellowships.
