Maestro Lim was a pioneer of the symphony orchestra movement in Korea. In 1956 he founded the Korean Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra(KBS), serving as its music director for 15 years. He has conducted numerous orchestras throughout the United States, Japan, Europe, Russia, and Southeast Asia; including the NHK Symphony, the Tokyo Philharmonic, the Osaka Philharmonic; the Manila, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taipei Philharmonic Orchestras; the Berlin Radio and Heidelberg Orchestras; the St. Petersburg Philharmonic; the Moscow Philharmonic; and the Almata and Tbilisi Orchestras.

　Maestro Lim is a graduate of the Harbin Conservatory of Music in Manchuria, and did further studies at the Tokyo Music Conservatory in Japan and The Juilliard School with Dean Dixon and Serge Koussevitzky.

　Maestro Lim has been awarded numerous awards, including the Dong-A Music Grand Award(1991)and the Medals of Culture from the governments of the Republic of Korea and Germany.

　He is currently a faculty member at Choo-Gai University, Honorary Conductor of the Seoul KBS Symphony Orchestra, and a member of the National Academy of Arts Korea.

　

　

　マエストロ林元植(リン・ウオン・シック)は、韓国の交響楽団活動の先駆者である。韓国で初めて組織されたオーケストラ(高麗交響楽団)の常任指揮者を務めた、1919年生まれ。最初の音楽教育を満州のハルビン音楽学院にて朝比奈隆氏に指揮を、東京芸術大学で諸井三郎氏に作曲理論を学んだ。戦後はニューヨークのジュリアード音楽院にてディン・ディクソン氏に師事。その後ウィーンを始め、ヨーロッパ各地で学び、1956年には韓国中央放送局(KBS)交響楽団を設立し、15年間その音楽監督を務めた。

　韓国で上演されたオペラのほぼすべてを指揮したという実績を持つ。これまでに米国、日本、欧州、ロシア、東南アジア各地で数々のオーケストラを指揮してきた。その中にはNHK交響楽団、東京フィルハーモニー、大阪フィルハーモニー、台北フィルハーモニック・オーケストラ、ベルリン放送、ハイデルベルグ・オーケストラ、サンクト・ペテルスブルク交響楽団、モスコワ交響楽団、アルマタ・ツビリシ・オーケストラなどがある。

　さらにイタリア、ロシア、ユーゴスラビア、日本などで国際指揮者コンクールの審査員を務め、国際的に韓国の音楽界を代表する存在となっている。

　林氏は、Dong-A音楽大賞(1991年)、韓国・ドイツ政府からの文化勲章を初めとする数多くの賞を受賞している。現在は、Choo-Gai大学の教授、KBSの名誉指揮者、韓国芸術院会員である。
