3.10 Age Profile
The age profile of SSCA employees shows both weakness and opportunities. Weakness because a large number of people are young and have no educational and technical qualifications and have little opportunity for acquiring them under the circumstances. This implies that their contribution would be minimal and constitute a burden on the organization. Opportunity manifests itself in the form ofputting this manpower to intensive aviation discipline training and transforming it into a source of strength. This would need financial resources and time.
The current age profile of the organization is:
The bulk of the population is young 68.60% of the SSCA personnel are in the age group 18 to 29. They have no relevant qualifications and no experience in Civil Aviation. Those between 30 to 39 years of age have some experience but not that will improve the situation substantially. The average age of SSCA employees is 29.27 years.
3.11 Women Employees
SSCA has a significantly large number of women employees. They constitute over 15.06% of SSCA population. Of the 79 women employees, 18 are in take rank of officers and the remaining are staff. 31 of them have education up to secondary level and the remaining 30 have school class I to class V education. 22 of these employees are over 30 years of age. The remaining 57 are between the ages of 19 to 29, with most of them being between the age group of 20 to 25. Their knowledge of and contribution to Civil Aviation is little. But some of them do have the potential to be developed into good professionals, both for technical and non-technical disciplines of the organization.
If efforts are made the women employees could be groomed for:
(a) Secretariat services
(b) Computer operations
(c) Information services
(d) Accounting services
(e) Personnel services
(f) Air Traffic services
(g) Meteorological services
It would be appropriate to consider a set of tailor made training programs for this group of employees with external/UN agency (likeUNIFEM) assistance both to focus sharp attention on women population, as stipulated in Socio-Economic Development Plan, and in consideration of UN advised gender equity plans.
