EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Rolls-Royce's marine activities are now spread over a number of sites, mainly in the UK, Norway and Sweden. This follows the acquisition of Ulstein's marine equipment businesses (excluding its shipbuilding interests) by Vickers at the end of 1998 and the subsequent purchase of Vickers by Rolls-Royce at the end of 1999.
Since its purchase of Vickers and the integration of Vickers Ulstein Marine Systems (VUMS) into the company, Rolls-Royce now offers a much enhanced products and integrated power and propulsion systems portfolio for the marine market. These feature diesel engines and gas turbines for powers from 2,600 kW to 50,000 kW, gearboxes, propellers, thrusters and water jets. In addition the company offers ship design services, automation, manoeuvring, and stabilising systems and deck machinery.
