MTU FRIEDRICHSHAFEN

1. OUTLINE OF COMPANY

1.1 Organisation of the Company

Engines have been manufactured at MTU's factory in Friedrichshafen, Germany since the 1920s, but MTU was not formed until 1969. It was established as a 50/50 joint venture between Daimler Benz and MAN. In 1985 Daimler-Benz acquired MAN's shares, to own MTU outright, and four years later Deutsche Aerospace took over all the shares of Daimler-Benz. Since 1989 the MTU Group - MTU Friedrichshafen, MTU Munich and their subsidiaries and affiliates - has been a corporate unit of Munich-based Deutsche Aerospace, within the Propulsion Systems division.

The MTU subsidiary L'Orange manufactures injection systems for diesel, heavy-fuel and gas engines. In addition, MTU operates a 34/66 joint venture with MAN, called SEMT Pielstick, which is based in France. SEMT Pielstick is a licencer of Fuji.
