At Frederikshavn MAN B&W designs, produces and services complete propulsion plants for small and medium-sized vessels, in particular for fishing vessels, tugs, ferries, coasting and inland navigation vessels. This includes diesel engines, reduction gear units with couplings, controllable pitch propellers and remote control equipment. Propulsion plants can be supplied with either a two-stroke or a four-stroke diesel engine. In 1997 the facilities were expanded, with a new assembly hall and a testing hall covering a total of 1,300 sq.m.
Four-stroke diesel engines are mainly produced at the company's plant in Augsburg in Germany, although some units are made at Frederikshavn and Holeby in Denmark. Most of Augsburg's output is destined for land-based use, although the company is hoping to increase sales to marine customers.
Factories used to produce two and four stroke marine diesel engines can be found at the following addresses.

During the most recent financial year, the company reports that capacities at all production locations had not been fully utilised at all times. Indeed, at the beginning of 1999 some staff at the foundry in Augsburg as well as the works in Frederikshavn, Holeby and St. Nazaire were put on short-time working.
