1.2.7 Provide signage on the fuel pontoon, including: 'NO SMOKING' and 'NO NAKED FLAMES'.

 

1.2.8 Adequately train and regularly drill all Marina employees in 'Fire and Hazard Control' procedures.

 

1.3 HAZARD PREVENTION AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

 

1.3.1 Provide for fire hose reels and other fire fighting equipment to be clearly marked, restricting the usage to fire fighting only.

 

1.3.2 Provide signage on the fuel pontoon including: 'NO SMOKING', 'NO NAKED FLAMES' and 'CHECK BILGE FOR FUMES BEFORE STARTING.'

 

1.3.3 Adequately train at six month intervals, and regularly drill all Marina employees in 'Fire and Hazard Control' procedures.

 

1.3.4 Maintain daily vigilance for:-

◆fuel storage leaks;

◆spills or leaks during vessel refuelling;

◆sinking of vessels;

◆flexible hose connection from fuel tanks to fuel pontoon, that are leaking or failing;

◆fire and waste water run-off;

◆spillage of sewage at sewage pump-out facility.

 

1.3.5 Staff will be trained in fuel spill recovery and containment procedures.

 

1.3.6 Provide a suitable floating boom for the containment of fuel, oil or sewage spills and absorbent materials for cleaning up any leaks or spillage.

 

1.3.7 In the event of spillage or a fuel line rupture, Marina staff will be trained to isolate the fuel pump at the bowser and close adjacent valves, deploy the fuel containment boom and initiate action to clean up the fuel spillage.

 

1.3.8 Fuel dispensing equipment will he inspected daily and tested weekly to ensure that it is in a safe operational state.

 

1.3.9 When not in use or supervised, fuel dispensers will be locked.

 

1.3.10 Access keys to unattended vessels must be lodged with Marina management.

 

1.3.11 Shut-off valves will be inspected and tested on a monthly basis by Marina staff to ensure functional reliability.

 

1.3.12 In the event of fire, staff will be trained to contact the Fire Brigade and to commence appropriate fire control procedures.

 

FUEL SPILLAGE

 

(i) In the event of a fire on a vessel, all persons will he evacuated from the relevant and surrounding Marina berths by Marina staff.

 

(ii) Circuit breakers to the Marina fingers will cut-off all power thereto.

 

(iii) Regular annual liaison and consultative meetings will be undertaken with the local Fire Brigade service for the purpose of defining access points on land to the Marina and to update fire fighting techniques and equipment.
