NEW CENTURY ACE 33,000-dwt Log / Bulk Carrier
The Hakodate Dock Co., Ltd. has completed the first ship in the 21st century, NEW CENTURY ACE was delivered to Trio Happiness, S.A. (Panama) in January, 2001.
The ship is also the first ship of 33,000-dwt log / bulk carrier whose design was newly developed with the concept that its principal dimensions were determined in consideration of specific ports in the west coast, U.S.A. and Japan for log transportation and obtaining the maximum log loading capacity for this type of handy-size within the limit of several conditions.
In the above concept, the ship has a shallow draft, but also a deeper draft of 10.34 m which enables the ship's performance to have a wider range of purposes (other cargoes and other ports without draft limit).
The ship has the following features to bring out the ship's excellent performances, such as efficient cargo handling, sufficient cargo loading space and satisfactory hull strength.
Features
1. Intended cargoes include packaged lumber (Hold CO2 system fitted), steel coils and ore cargoes, for which the ship is strengthened while Nos.2 & 4 holds may be empty.
2. Log loading capacity has 6,400,000 SCR (390 CF / 4.5 t in hold and 320 CF / 4.5 t on deck), with height of log stanchion on deck having 8.5 m for No.1 and 9.0 m for Nos.2-5.
3. For the purpose of obtaining larger hold capacity as much as possible, all holds are designed as ordinary type hold with top-side tanks and lower hopper tanks.
4. All hatches except No.1 hatch are equipped with wide hatch covers of 20.0 m x 19.6 m which facilitate cargo handling.
