The 2,230-gt passenger / car carrier AVRORA OKUSHIRI, built t Setoda Works of Naikai Zosen Corporation, was delivered to Higashi Nihonkai Ferry Co., Ltd.on April 8, 1999.
The AVRORA OKUSHIRI, the ninth vessel completed by Naikai to the order of Higashi Nihonkai Ferry, entered service on the Esashi / Okushiri Island oute.
Features
1. The vessel is a twin-propeller twin-rudder passenger / car carrier. Vehicles roll on and off the full-length car deck of the vessel by w y of a r mp door arranged at the stern.
2. The hull is provided with bulbous bow and a split stern for enhanced propulsion performance.
3. The vessel has antirolling tanks to prevent rolling while at sea, and is equipped with bow thruster and Schilling rudders for efficient berthing and unberthing.
4. "Avrora" means aurora (the goddess of dawn) in Russian. As the vessel is intended to serve the route to Okushiri h ving"revived from the ruins of a disastrous earthquake," she was christened the AVRORA OKUSHIRI to symbolize the goddess, suggesting the dawn from the darkness of the tremendous natural disaster which the island suffered.
