HAYABUSA NO.3 Passenger and Car Ferry
The passenger and car ferry HAYABUSA NO.3 built to Kyoei Unyu Co., Ltd. was delivered in September 2000 at the Hakodate Shipyard of The Hakodate Dock Co., Ltd., and is now in service on the 113 km route between Hakodate and Aomori with a crossing time of four hours.
The ferry was newly designed and built as passenger and car ferry in place of the old truck ferry, HAYABUSA NO.3, due to change in domestic rules and is now capable to accommodate 47 passengers, in addition to 10 drivers, 12 m trailer truck x 24 and 9 m trailer truck x 2.
Features
1. Stern of hull is a twin-hull underwater to obtain economical propulsive efficiency in fuel consumption.
2. The ferry is twin-screwed, twin-ruddered and powered by two main diesel engines, and can be very flexibly maneuvered by coordinating the pitch control of the controllable-pitch propellers (CPP), steering the K-7 flap rudders and by using the bow thruster.
3. The main engines are medium-speed diesels, provided with a fresh-water central cooling system and automatic equipment for labor saving, all intended for additional efficient operation.
4. Vehicles roll on and roll off via shore ramps arranged at the bow with bow visor and stern with movable deck.
5. The ferry has luxurious lobby and comfortable accommodations for passengers, having two large cabins of carpeted floor and one bedroom, and is also equipped with a fin stabilizer, ensuring sufficient stability and comfortable ride for passengers.
