1. Organization
JCG divides the nation into eleven regions, in each of which is a Regional Coast Guard Headquarters. JCG Headquarters is structured to preside over these Regional Headquarters (refer to organization chart at back of book).
In addition, JCG retains as educational and training institutions the Coast Guard Academy, the Coast Guard School as well as the Moji and Miyagi Branch Schools of the latter.
2. Personnel
As of the end of FY 1999, JCG had 12,247 personnel, and the breakdown is shown in Table 3. As of 1 April 2000, 222 female Coast Guard Officers were assigned to various ground organizations as well as vessels and aircraft.
II Equipment
1. Vessels
As of the end of FY 1999, JCG possessed a variety of different vessels totaling 519 (gross tonnage 153,578) including 516 for guard and rescue, hydrographic and Aids to Navigation services as well as the remaining 3 for training JCG personnel.
