2] Rescue of Persons Involved in Seashore Accidents
In 1999, of 1,796 persons who met with seashore accidents, JCG carried out rescue operations for 1,040 persons (58%), mobilizing, in total, 1,020 patrol vessels and craft, 322 aircraft and 175 members of the special rescue team. Of these 1,040 persons, JCG rescued 93 persons, and combined with those rescued by other agencies, 531 persons were rescued, representing a rescue rate of 32% (compared with 29% in 1998).
3. Transportation of Patients Requiring Emergency Care
JCG carries out emergency transportation of patients, doctors and medical supplies, and other materials, in patrol vessels and craft and aircraft as necessary, when medical emergencies occur aboard sea-going vessels, remote islands, and elsewhere. In 1999, JCG carried out emergency transportation of 178 patients (refer to Diagram 5) and 75 doctors.
