2) Development of DM41AK type engine

The new low speed 4 stroke engine of DM41AK type (3600 PS) which is investigated for the higher reliability, easy maintenance and compactness was developed. The principal particulars are shown as Table 2.4.2-1.

3) Development of E28BS type engine

The new high powered 4 stroke engine of E28BS type (2200 PS) which is investigated for the higher reliability and easy maintenance was developed. The picture is shown as Fig.2.4.2-2 and the principal particulars are shown as Table 2.4.2-2.

(3) Acquisition of verification for NOx emission

The following 6 sets of 4 stroke cycle engines which are low NOx emission version, were developed before starting the treaty of IMO/NOx regulation.

In this table, the A41 type engine has been obtained both verifications for NOx emission EIAPP of E3 test cycle (performance mode on marine load) and E2 test cycle (performance mode by variable pitch propeller) through the NOx emission judgement of Nippon Kaiji Kyokai. The contents of low NOx emission version are as follows:

1) Timing retard,

2) Reform of a fuel cam,

3) Application of multi holed fuel injection valve,

4) Tune up by changing compression ratio and intake pressure.

And then, each 2 stroke cycle engine was checked for low NOx emission level. The preparatory works for verification for NOx emission were performed at the same time. Engines of 5-8 UEC52LA type, 5-8 UEC50LS II type and 5-8 UEC37LA type were applied for the acquisition of EIAPP certification in the beginning of 2000.
