Fig.3 Gas Supply System for GIDE

3.1 Outline of Alternative Systems

3.1.1 Diesel Electric Propulsion (DE)

The main particulars of the system are shown in Table 1. This system has four sets of dual fuel medium speed diesel generator and one set of oil burning medium speed diesel generator. Twin pod propeller system, developed by some European manufacturer, is used for electric propulsion.

During normal service conditions, four of five generators are in service. The gas pressure of the BOG supply system depends on by the generator engine type.

The excess BOG during slow steaming will be burnt by the dual fuel auxiliary boiler and excess steam is led to the dump condenser.

The twin pod propellers contribute to get better maneuverability and flexibility of engine room arrangement.

3.1.2 Diesel Engine with Reliquefaction plant (RLQ)

The main particulars off the system are shown in Table 1. This system has one heavy fuel oil burning low speed main engine for propulsion and two reliquefaction plants. Under normal service conditions, one reliquefaction plant is able to treat BOG.

The normal service rating of the main engine is determined by the power requirements for both propulsion during normal sea service, and the shaft generator to generated the electric power needed to drive the reliquefaction plant.
