The consumption of A oil increased, as it was used as PLUTOcen-F solution.

C oil consumption decreased by 1.9%, while LO decreased by 10% (97% of the reduction in C oil consumption was realized in the main engine).

The expenses spent over the 9-months period are shown as follows, and it proves that the investment is worthwhile.

◎ Comparison with sister vessels

The following table shows the comparison with the same type of ferries "LAVENDER (LA)" and "NEW ACASIA (NA) "operating on Maizuru-Otaru route.

C oil on LI was gradually reduced each month, resulting in the biggest reduction rate of all. NA's reduction rate was the second biggest, and October saw a reduction of 100T compared with the same month in 1997 and there must have been some special reason for this.

As for the consumption of LO, LA posted a bigger reduction than LI by 1.4%. In general, however, the absolute quantity of consumption is very high and had been on abnormal increase since October 1997.

This was due to too much blow-by, and the fact that liners had to be replaced one year earlier than anticipated during dock in March 1998.

It became obvious, when compared with other sister vessels, that PLUTOcen-F has a significant effect on the fuel.

Note: Engine open data was made available by C/E of the ferry "LILAC", and the data concerning fuel consumption was prepared by the author.
