The Chairman introduced that a great interest of this standardization was shown by the participants in the last TC8 plenary Tokyo meeting. Especially, Mr. Kondoh from IAPH asked TC8 for further cooperation of this area in terms of safe container shipping and cargo operations.
Mr. Brookes expressed his interest for standardization on safe container shipping and cargo operations of short sea shipping as well.
SC11 is establishing possible work items now, so those who are interested in this movement should take part in SCI I meeting, which will be held at in October in Galati, Romania.

The Chairman introduced and explained the appreciation letter from IMO
Secretary General to ISO Secretary General and expressed deep thanks for the contribution of the SC8 members who has been developed two Bulk Carrier standards.
IMO/FP44
Mr. Hime introduced the outline of IMO/FP meeting.
He reported that several standards developed in ISO/TC8/SC1 have been adopted in IMO, DIS 15370-Low location lighting on passenger ships, DIS 15371-Fire extinguishing systems for protection of galley deep frying equipment-Fire Tests, etc.
IMO/DE43
・ 8 AG N 540 Observations of the ISO representative
Admiral Hopkins introduced the outline of IMO/DE43 meeting.
He reported detail point based on 8AG N 540 and indicated the seven possible new work items, which potentially link both ISO and IMO.
The Chairman requested to the Secretary of TC8 to add these items to 8N 1000 Annex A. It is encouraged to use this form when ISO representative attends the IMO meeting.
Regarding MARPOL, Air pollution from ships, the Chairman supplemented that IMO/MEPC agreed to continue to up-to-date Exhaust Emission Code on the basis of revised ISO 8178, Exhaust Emission Measurement, which has been developed in ISO/TC70.
IMO/MEPC 44
The Chairman introduced the outline of IMO/MEPC44.
He highlighted the topic of ballast water management in terms of environmental point of view, the topic of mega yachts (over 24 meters), recycling the ships, training of the port marine personnel, harmonization of certification, harmful anti fouling paint, and etc.
9. Review of Liaisons at TC and SC level.
The Chairman expressed the importance of Liaisons with other TCs and other organizations in order to drafting the international standards and should be considered clearly by dividing the TC level liaisons and SC level liaisons.
