大政奉還で時代は明治となり、人々の風俗は大きく変わりました。軽やかに踊る洋装の婦人やザンギリ頭の人々。明治22年の市制施行で高岡は市となり人商工都市として発展しますが、市の大半を焼き尽くす大火にも見舞われます。やがて世界大戦が勃発。兵士たちの屍(しかばね)がるいるいと横たわるなかに現れた家持は、自分の詠んだ「海ゆかば」が、若者たちをいくさに駆り立てるために軍歌として唄われているのを見て悲しみます。かつて自分が愛した美しい万葉の自然は破壊されて跡形もありません。力をかたむけていた万葉集もすでに編纂完成され出版されていました。詩神は落胆する家持を励ますため平成にタイムトリップさせ、美しく生まれ変わった街の様子や、万葉歴史館を見せます。家持は後世の人々が自分を大切にしていることを知ります。
しかしそこへ、突然自分と寸分たがわぬもう一人の「家持」が現れ度肝を抜かれます。家持のクローン人間が作られていたのです。クローン家持はオリジナル家持に対し、過去の記憶を移植してほしいと要求します。クローン家持はインターネットの使い方を教え、自分のパソコンから夢幻譚ドットコムにアクセスします。しかしホームページはすでにハッカーに書き換えられています。土師は送られてきたウィルスを家持へのラブレターと勘違いして開いてしまいます。ラブウィルスによってパソコンは破壊され、モニターからの空気感染によって家持も見る見るうちに金属に変わり、銅像になってしまいます。
The Meiji era starts with the Imperial Restoration and a new fashion is introduced from the West. Women dance gracefully in Western-style dresses and men have their hair cropped. Takaoka becomes a municipality in 1889 and develops as a commercial and industrial city. Unfortunately, however, more than half of the city is destroyed by a big fire.
World War II breaks out. Yakafmochi appears in the battlefield, where he finds heaps of soldiers lying dead. He feels sad to hear his poem 'When I Go to the Sea' sung as a military song to drive young men into battle. To his great grief, the beautiful nature he loved so much has been destroyed. He also finds the Manyoshu, which he devoted all his efforts to compile, has already been published. To cheer him up, the muse takes him to Takaoka in the Heisei era and shows him the Takaoka Manyo Historical Museum, where he learns he is still respected by the future generations.
Then he is astounded to see his clone appear suddenly.The clone demands that Yakamochi's memory of the past should be transferred to him via PC. The clone shows Yakamochi how to use the Internetand accesses MUGENTAN.com from his PC. The home page, however, has been hacked. Hanishi takes the virus which has been sent for a love letter to Yakamochi and opens it. The PC is destroyed by the LOVE bug virus and Yakamochi also is infected with the virus from the monitor and turns into a bronze statue.
