It was agreed that the Executive Committee should investigate alternatives and to proceed with the most appropriate means of making AMETIAP a legally recognised entity, by the end of the first quarter of 2000.

The Australian Maritime College is to determine the dates and the Executive Committee the business and activities.
8 General Business
The offer by the Maritime Training Centre of the Republic of Maldives to host the Conference and AGM in 2001 was accepted unanimously. Expressions of interest in hosting future meetings were expressed by representatives from Vanuatu, Magsaysay and IDESS in the Philippines, California Maritime Academy and Dalian Maritime University.
Members were advised of the forthcoming IMLA International Navigation Lecturer's Conference.
A request was made for more time in workshops during the annual conference.
Members expressed thanks to Mr Swapan Das Sarma for his chairmanship of the AMETIAP Executive Committee on behalf of Singapore Polytechnic. In responding, Mr Das Sarma urged members to collaborate in assisting AMETIAP to fulfil its objectives.
