3.1 Executive Committee Report: Activities & Issues
The Report of the Executive Committee distributed as paper AGM4/3/1 was discussed and accepted.
It was proposed that at least three newsletters be produced in 2000. The issues associated with the category of Business Member were referred to the Executive Committee. The Chair reported that comments about AMETIAP at the 5th ASF Seamen's Committee meeting in Ho Chi Minh City in November were very promising, with participants agreeing to encourage membership by institutions in their own countries. He also reported the very positive attitude to AMETIAP expressed by the representative of the Maritime Administration Authority of the Philippines (MARINA). The Chair expressed the need to pursue funding from sources such as the World Bank, through UN agencies and also from agencies in the United States. The need to utilise the internet more was stressed. IMO's strong support for AMETIAP was emphasised, although an IMO-AMETIAP memorandum of agreement will not be signed at this stage. The likelihood that workshops on Maritime English would be funded in the near future was expressed.
3.2 Executive Committee Report: Membership
The Report of the Executive Committee distributed as paper AGM4/3/2 was discussed and accepted.
The likelihood of Ordinary Membership exceeding 60 in 2000 was expressed, however there was concern about the Associate and Business Membership categories. The Chair urged Members to solicit new members.
3.3 Executive Committee Report: Finance
The Report of the Executive Committee distributed as paper AGM4/3/3 was discussed and accepted.
The Chair expressed the need for significant endowment funds, of the order of US$2 million. It was agreed to reappoint Garrott and Garrott as the auditors for the year ending 30 June 2000.
