ASSOCIATION OF MARITIME EDUCATION AND TRAINING INSTITUTIONS IN ASIA PACIFIC
CONSTITUTION
PREAMBLE
We, the Representatives of maritime education and training institutions in the Asia Pacific Region:
Recognising the vital importance and role of maritime education and training in fulfilling the needs of the expanding trade and economic growth of our respective economies;
Realising the urgent need for mutual cooperation and collective efforts on maritime education and training matters in order to promote safety of life and property at sea and the protection of the marine environment;
Desiring to support the aims and objectives of the International Maritime Organisation;
Having organised ourselves into an Association of Maritime Education and Training Institutions in Asia Pacific;
Do hereby adopt and promulgate this Constitution:
ARTICLE I: NAME AND CHARACTER
Section 1 Name
This Organisation shall be known as the Association of Maritime Education and Training Institutions in Asia Pacific hereinafter referred to as "the AMETIAP".
Section 2 Character
The AMETIAP is a voluntary association consisting of the maritime education and training institutions and other relevant organisations of the Asia Pacific economies.
ARTICLE II: AIM AND OBJECTIVES
Section 1 Aim
The aim of the AMETIAP is to promote, develop and support in the spirit of cooperation the common interests of its members in all matters concerning the development and quality of maritime education and training institutions.
Section 2 Objectives
The objectives of the AMETIAP are:
2.1 To provide a forum for the exchange of views among members;
2.2 To foster, develop and maintain close cooperation between and among members on matters relating to maritime, education and training including maritime research and development and other matters of mutual and/or collective interest;
