5 Consider producing a set of Conference Proceedings
Not done for the 1998 Conference as presenters were not given advanced warning. A set could be produced for the 1999 Conference but, given existing resources, it would be quite costly in terms of money and time and the concept, which has the potential to be very beneficial, needs further consideration- eg should members pay for each copy, what should the distribution be?
6 Determine location of 2000 AGM in Australia
AGM3 agreed that the Australian Maritime College is to host the AGM and Conference
7 Develop criteria, in addition to workplan goals, to assess the performance of the Executive Secretary
The AGM will be advised of the criteria agreed to by the Executive Committee
8 Consider developing a recurring title for the Annual Conference
Education for a More Efficient, Safer, Cleaner Shipping Industry: to be followed by an appropriate theme for the respective conference is proposed. A precedent has been set with the theme for the 1999 Conference
9 Contact ITF re involvement in their floating exhibition ship
In view of the delays and other difficulties experienced by the ship, the alternative was taken during the visit to London to meet the IMO Secretary General, to visit the ITF, explain AMETIAP and request participation in the 1999 meetings in Tokyo.
10 Further develop links with ASF
The links are strengthening steadily:
In his address to the 3rd LSM Asia Pacific Manning & Training Conference in Manila on 3 Nov 99, Mr Kenneth Koo, Vice Chairman, ASF Seamen's Committee referred to the links with AMETIAP as a
"burgeoning relationship(which) further consolidates the regional cooperation between shipowners and training institutes to draw up an 'Asian' interpretation and implementation of STCW95"
AMETIAP was represented at the 5th Interim meeting of the ASF Seamen's Committee, Ho Chi Minh City, 22nd〜24th November 1999 by Mr Swapan Das Sarma of Singapore Polytechnic, Chair of AMETIAP. This was the fourth such meeting in which AMETIAP has participated.
The ASF is participating in the meetings in Tokyo.
