ロンドン王立音楽院教授、特別研究員を歴任し1981年の引退までメニューヒン学校の校長を勤めるとともに、40年間メニューヒン卿と共に音楽活動に努めた。1958年〜1978年メニューヒン・フェスティバル・オーケストラのコンサートマスターを勤めるとともに、メニューヒン卿と世界各地でのコンサートツアーで共演する。
彼自ら25年以上もピアノ四重奏団を主宰する等、室内楽で重要な役割を果たしてきた。また、長年ロンドン・モーツァルト・プレーヤーズのコンサートマスターを勤める。1983年〜1995年フォークストーン・メニューヒン・ヴァイオリンコンクールの音楽監督他、世界各国の著名な国際コンクールの審査委員を勤めている。
Formerly Professor of Violin and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music, London, and Director of Music at the Yehudi Menuhin School until his retirement in 1981, Prof. Robert MASTERS has spent nearly 40 years in close association with Lord Menuhin. He was Director and concertmaster of the Menuhin Festival Orchestra from its inception in 1958 until its finish in 1978 and appeared as co-soloist with Lord Menuhin on concert tours around the world. Chamber music has played an important role in his life with his own Pianoforte Quartet performing in most countries of the world over a period of 25 years. He was also concertmaster of the esteemed London Mozart Players for many years. Prof. Robert MASTERS was the Artistic Director of the Folkestone Menuhin International Violin Competition from 1983 to 1995 and he continues to be a member of the Jury in numerous great international competitions in many countries.
京都市生まれ。東京芸術大学卒のあと、1961年渡米。エール大学大学院を卒業し、修士の学位を得る。以後、ストコフスキー指揮のアメリカ交響楽団、ニューヨーク・シテイー・オペラ・オーケストラ、フィラデルフィア室内管弦楽団、サンフランシスコ交響楽団等の首席バスーン奏者を歴任。マルボーロ音楽祭やニューヨーク、サンフランシスコ、東京等での演奏等室内楽の分野で巾広く活動する。数多くの管楽器の室内楽グループのための編曲がカール・フィシャー社テオドル・プレサー社、音楽の友社等から出版されている。1976年帰国。東京都交響楽団、新日本フィルハーモニーを経て、現在愛知県立芸術大学教授、東京バッハバンド音楽監督(編曲/指揮)。米国三大音楽祭の一つと呼ばれるコロラド州のアスペン・音楽フェスティバルヘは、1978年以来毎夏ファカルティ・アーティストとして招かれている。
Born in Kyoto, Prof. Ryohei NAKAGAWA has received his bachelor's degree from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and his master's degree from Yale University. Formerly principal bassoon of L. Stokowsky's American Symphony, the New York City Opera Orchestra, the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, his arrangements for various wind groups are published by C. Fisher / New York, Ongaku-no-tomo-sha / Tokyo and T. Presser. His wide activities in chamber music include the Marlboro Music Festival as well as numerous activities in New York, San Francisco and Tokyo. Since 1978 he is serving as a faculty artist to the Aspen Music Festival. After his performances with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and the New Japan Philharmonic, Prof. Ryohei NAKAGAWA is currently writing arrangements and conducting as music director of the Tokyo Bach Band and serving as professor of music at Aichi Prefecture University of Arts in Nagoya.
