7才でヴァイオリンを始め、ウィーンでマックス・ヴァイスゲルバー教授(ウィーンフィル交響楽団、国立オペラ管弦楽団のメンバーであり著名な弦楽四重奏団奏者として知られている)の指導を受ける。このような環境から、早くから室内楽への関心を持つようになる。
1948年、アマデウス・クヮルテット結成時のメンバーとなる。同クヮルテットは以後、正に40年間メンバーを変えることなく世界の室内楽部門で主要な地位を占める。
1987年、メンバーの一人ペーター・シッドロフの死亡により解散となる。アマデウス・クヮルテットの活動と並行してケルン音楽大学で15年間室内楽を教えるとともに、1986年以降はロンドン王立音楽学校で室内楽部門の責任者となる。
1988年、同クヮルテットの2名と共に王立音楽アカデミーで2週間の研修を再開するとともに、オランダ、日本、フランス、フィンランド、ドイツ、イタリア各国でフェスティバルを開催。
又、彼個人の活動としては、ザルツブルグのモーツァルテウムやフランス・リヨンのムジカードその他ヨーロッパ各国での夏期アカデミーでマスターコースを開催。各種コンクールで審査委員として活動する他、音楽関係団体の顧問を勤めている。
Prof. Siegmund NISSEL started to study violin at the age of seven and moved to Vienna in 1932, where he studied with Prof. Max Weissgaerber, a member of the Vienna Philharnronic and the Opera Orchestra, who also led a well-known string quartet. Hence Prof. Siegmund NISSEL's early introduction to chamber music.
Prof. Siegmund NISSEL was a founding member of the Amadeus Quartet in 1948, which very quickly played a major part in the international chamber music scene and did so for virtually 40 years without change of members, but was dissolved with the untimely death of one member, Peter Schidlof, in 1987. Together with his Amadeus colleagues Prof. Siegmund NISSEL has taught chamber music at the Musikhochschule, Cologee, for 15 years and since 1986 also at the Royal Academy of Music, London, where he has acted as Director of chamber music.
In 1988, he and his two remaining Amadeus colleagues started a yearly two-weeks' course held at the Royal Academy of Music. They also teach together and play concerts at the Orlando Festival, Holland, and similar festivals in Japan, France, Finland, Germany and Italy.
On his own. Prof. Siegmund NISSEL gives master-classes at the Mozarteum, Salzburg, at the "Musicades" In Lyon, France, and other conservatories and at summer academies all over Europe.
Prof.Siegmund NISSEL enjoys being a jury member at competitions and is acting as advisor to many music organizations.

Prof. Arto NORAS is one of the most prominent present-day cellists in the world. He began learning the instrument already at the age of five. From the age of eight he was a pupil of Professor Yrjo Selin at the Sibelius Academy. In 1962-1964 he studied in Paul Tortelier's master-class at the Paris Conservatoire and gained his diploma (premier prix) in 1964. Two years later he was a runner-up at the Tchaikovsky competition.
Prof. Arto NORAS appears regularly with the major orchestras all over the world. His repertoire encompasses almost the entire cello literature. He has recorded extensively.
Prof. Arto NORAS is also well-known for his appearances as a distinguished chamber musician with the most famous instrumentalists in the world. He is the founder and a member of the Sibelius Academy Quartet.
Prof. Arto NORAS is the founder and the Artistic Director of the Naantali Music Festival as well as the founder of the International Paulo Cello Competition.
Since 1970 Prof. Arto NORAS has been Professor of cello at the Sibelius Academy. He has had master-classes all over the world. He has also acted as a jury member in all major cello competitions.
