世界26カ国から52団体の優秀なグループを迎え、今年5月に第3回「大阪国際室内楽コンクール&フェスタ」を開催できますことは、主催者といたしまして真に大きな喜びでございます。今回も大阪府・大阪市は勿論、未曾有の不況下にも拘らずコンクールの趣旨にご理解いただきました関係各位のご協力があってこそ開催できるものです。心より感謝申し上げる次第です。
世界の一流コンクールと比べますと、当コンクールの歴史はまだ新しいにも拘らず、その水準は極めて高いとの各方面からの評価をいただき、各国でもその存在が大きく知られるようになりました。その要因としては、今年3月にお亡くなりましたが、世界的に高名な故イェフディー・メニューヒン卿に名誉芸術監督に就任いただいたこと、世界各国から一流の音楽家を審査委員としてお迎えしていること、各部門で1位入賞したアンサンブルが、世界各国でその実績をあげていること、等にあると思われます。
又、コンクールと同時に開催する「大阪国際室内楽フェスタ」は、クラシック音楽はもとより、世界各国の伝統音楽・民族音楽を対象にしており、楽器の種類を問わないこと、国籍・年齢の制限がないこと、聴衆による審査であること等、従来のコンクールには見られないユニークな音楽祭として国際的に高い評価を得ております。この室内楽フェスタは、故メニューヒン卿がかねてから提唱しておられた「夢の音楽コンクール」を実現したものです。
コンクール&フェスタを通して各国参加者と心をふれあい、国際交流の実をあげるとともに、21世紀に向けて関西文化向上の一翼を担うことができましたら、望外の喜びでございます。
It is truly a great pleasure for the organizers to be able to invite 52 excellent ensembles from 27 countries around the world to participate in the "3rd Osaka International Chamber Music Competition & Festa". This was made possible through the help of Osaka Prefecture, Osaka City and many other sponsors and supporters, in understanding the Competition's objectives, even during this economic recession, as we have never experienced a recession before. I want to express my deepest gratitude.
Although our Competition & Festa's history is still young compared to other first-class competitions in the world, from many aspects its level is judged to be extremely high; and the event is by now known throughout the world.
The main factors in this recognition are the facts that Lord Yehudi Menuhin, who passed away in March this year, was supporting the event as its Honorary Artistic Director; that the Jury consists of first-class musicians from all over the world; and that the 1st-prize-winners of each section and the Festa offer the finest performances not only during the Grand Prix Tour in Japan, but also throughout the world.
The "Osaka International Chamber Music Festa", held in conjunction with the Competition, is a world-wide competition not only for classical music, but also for traditional and folk music. There is no compulsory music; diverse instrumental formations are possible; the Festa is open to musicians of any nationality and age; and it is judged by the audience. It is therefore highly respected internationally as a unique music festival very different from conventional competitions. The Chamber Music Festa has brought to reality what the event's Honorary Artistic Director, the late Lord Yehudi Menuhin, advocated as the "Music Competition of his Dreams".
I will be more than happy if through this Competition & Festa the hearts and participants of different nations can sympathize with one another to deepen international and intercultural exchange, and if we can thereby contribute to cultural advancement in the Kansai Region as we approach the 21st century.
