SUMMARY
Executive summary: This document reports on the February 1999 regional seminar and workshop on piracy and armed robbery against ships held in Singapore for countries in the South East Asia region.
Action to be taken: Paragraph 2.
Related documents: MSC 71/15/1, MSC 71/15/2 and MSC 71/15/3.
1 Annexed is the report on the IMO regional seminar and workshop on Piracy and armed robbery against ships, which took place in Singapore from 3 to 5 February 1999 for countries in the South China Sea and the Straits of Malacca and Singapore, referred to in paragraph 3 of document MSC 71/15/1. However, given the importance of the recommendations made by that meeting, in conjunction with those made by the 1998 Brasilia seminar and workshop for Latin American and Caribbean countries (see document MSC 71/15/3) and the apparent need for action to be taken on those recommendations without further delay, the Secretariat, having consulted the Chairman:
.1 has arranged for this document to be issued as a substantive document (with translation in the other two working languages); and
.2 proposes that the second drafting group allowed to be established at the forthcoming session be allocated to finalize the decisions of the plenary on the recommendations of the two seminars and workshops, if the Committee so decides.
