Action requested of the Committee
2 The Committee is invited to:
.1 note the annexed report and the resolutions adopted by the regional seminar and workshop, in particular resolution no.2 (Appropriate punishment for the crime of piracy and armed robbery against ships) and invite the Legal Committee to consider developing, as a matter or urgency, an international code for the investigation of piracy and armed robbery against ships and recommending an appropriate punishment under national law taking into account the grave nature of the offence;
.2 consider the recommendations contained in annexes 3 and 4 of the report on proposed amendments to MSC/Cirs. 622 and 623 to take account of specific situations in the South East Asia region, and decide as appropriate (including the convening of a drafting group to implement, as appropriate, the plenary decisions); and
.3 consider taking appropriate action on annex 5 of the report (Draft regional Agreement on co-operation in combating acts of piracy and armed robbery against ships).
