第3回東京世界女子空手道選手権大会が開催されるに当たり、一言お祝いの言葉を申し上げます。
空手道は、我が国の長い歴史と伝統に培われた世界に誇る武道であり、心身の錬磨を通じ、豊かな人間形成を目指すスポーツとして、普及・発展を遂げてまいりました。
また、我が国固有の優れたスポーツ文化の一つとして、今日、国内はもとより海外においても多くの人々に親しまれておりますことは、誠に喜ばしいことであります。
本大会は、世界30か国・地域を代表する女子選手の精鋭が一堂に会し、世界一を決定する栄えある大会であるとともに、空手道の健全な発展と国際親善に寄与することを目的に開催される大変意義深い大会であります。
出場される選手の皆さん、日ごろの錬磨の成果を遺憾なく発揮されるとともに、空手道を愛好する世界の仲間と、互いの交流を深められますよう、心から期待いたします。そして、この機会に我が国の伝統や文化にも触れられ、日本での素晴らしい思い出をつくられることを希望します。
終わりに、本大会の開催に尽力された世界空手連盟、財団法人全日本空手道連盟をはじめ、関係の皆様方に対し深く敬意を表しますとともに、本大会の成功と空手道の一層の発展を祈念して、お祝いの言葉といたします。
I would like to offer congratulations on the holding of the 3rd Ladies' International Karatedo Cup.
Karatedo, one of our historical and traditional martial arts, has been developed as a sport that shapes the character through the discipline of mind and body. It is a great pleasure that Karatedo as one of our national sports has become popular not only in Japan but also abroad.
The purpose of this tournament is to contribute to the prosperity of Karatedo and international friendship among the participants from 30 countries and regions.
I hope that all the competitors representing each country and region will be able to demonstrate satisfactorily the results of their daily training, strengthen their mutual friendship and also have an opportunity to learn about Japanese tradition and culture and make great memories.
Last, but not least, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the World Karate Federation, Japan Karatedo Federation and everybody concerned in ensuring the success of this event, and wish you the best of fortune at this championship.
