本日、第3回東京世界女子空手道選手権大会が、ここ国立代々木競技場第2体育館で開催されますことは、誠に慶賀すべきことであり、棋道奨励のためにも貢献するところ極めて大であると存じます。
皆様ご承知のとおり、空手道は今や164ケ国がWKF(世界空手連盟)に加盟する世界的な武道であるとともに健全なスポーツとして国の内外を問わず多くの人々の愛好され、ますます普及発展を遂げております。
特に近年、女子選手の進出活動は目覚しく、国内はもとより世界各地で行われている大会にも大変な人気を集め、また技術的にも大変な進歩を遂げており、念願のオリンピック参加も必ずや近い将来実現するものと確信いたしております。
本大会は、世界各国・各地域からトップレベルの選手が出場、日頃鍛えた技を十分に発揮して、爽やかな競技態度と"華麗に・しなやかに・強く"みごとな技を披露し、観客並びに我々国民に喜びと感動を与えてくれるものと信じております。
選手の皆さんも、この燦然と輝く伝統あるスポーツ「空手道」を通じて思い出に残る素晴らしい大会とされんことを、さらにお互いが友情を深め合い、国際交流・親善の旗手となられますよう願ってやみません。
おわりにのぞみ、本大会開催にご尽力頂いた世界空手連盟並びに空手道関係者の皆様に深く感謝の意を表し、あわせて観客の皆様のますますのご多幸、ご繁栄を祈念申し上げ私の挨拶といたします。
It is indeed a great pleasure to hold the Third Ladies' International Karatedo Cup at the Yoyogi National Stadium Gymnasium No.2 in Tokyo.
As not only a Martial Art, but also as a sound sport, Karatedo is now very popular and has spread all over the world with 164 National Karatedo Federations affiliated to the World Karate Federation.
Especially, in recent years female athletes have made remarkable progress in their techniques and public popularity at tournaments in various countries. I believe that our goal of being admitted to the Olympics will be realised in the near future.
I am sure that the world's top level athletes gathered here will successfully demonstrate in this tournament the techniques which they have acquired through their daily training and that their sportsmanship and splendid skills will excite the spectators and our nation.
I hope this tournament will be a memorable event also for the athletes and that they will be able to strengthen their friendship and serve as symbols of international amity in the future.
In conclusion, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the World Karate Federation and everybody concerned for their efforts to make this tournament such a success, and wish all of you good health and much happiness.
