[Examples of Medical Communications]

◆ Cases in the Area of Internal Medicine

 

Example = Spontaneous pneumothorax

5 = When the patient began to work in the morning of August 18, 1997, he had dyspnea temporally. Taking a deep breath, he felt chest pain and became dyspneic. Discomfort on breathing still persists.

6 = Is suffering from pain when lying down on a bed, but is a little comfortable when sitting up on a sofa. Please advise on treatment prior to arrival in port.

7 = No past history

 

Example = Respiratory infection (pneumonia or pulmonary tuberculosis)

5 = Have had coughing and sore throat for a month. The symptoms subsided temporarily, but cough and sputum began to increase and dyspnea appeared 2 weeks ago. Because of the yellowish sputum and a body temperature of 38℃, Achromycin was started.

6 = Please advise on which is be better: to observe the clinical course of the symptoms or to disembark for hospitalization.

7= No past history

 

Example = Abdominal pain (appendicitis)

5 = Around 13:00 on April 11, 1997, had a pain in the right lower abdomen. Also felt nauseous. Suspected appendicitis, prescribed bed rest and administered an antibiotic. The pain in the right lower abdomen became more severe on April 12th and 13th. With pressure on the right lower abdomen, pain increases.

6 = Suspected acute appendicitis and continued use of Achromycin on board. Please advise on subsequent treatment.
