5 REPORT 26TH MEETING AG, LISBON, 1998-06-11/12

・8 AG N 513 - Report 26th meeting

The report of the last meeting is for information oniy; there is no need to discuss it now.

6 FOLLOW UP OF PREVIOUS RECOMMENDATIONS/RESOLUTIONS

・8 AG N 512 - Recommendations 26th meeting

The follow up of these Recommendations(that were all approved by ISO/TC 8, see 8 N 925 for the result of voting)was already explained in the plenary meeting, so there is no need to repeat that.

Under this agenda item the question is asked whether the E-mail experiment is satisfactory and if we can expect distribution of documents by E-mail in the near future. Only a minority of the ISO/TC 8 community have E-mail facilities at this moment so we foresee at least a dual system (Paper and electronic) for the next few years. Between the chairmen and secretaries of ISO/TC 8 and the SC's and ISO/CS E-mail is successful ad progressively used. All SC-secretariats (except SC 7) can be contacted by E-mail now.

7 REPORT AD HOC GROUP PUBLIC AWARENESS

ISO/TC 8 Newsletter

A copy of the 2nd issue of the ISO/TC 8 Newsletter has been distributed to all delegates, and will be sent by mail to several other parties, including the liaisons. Additional copies for national distribution can be obtained on request from Mr.Hime. Several delegations take advantage of this opportunity. The SC secretariats that have submitted articles for this issue are thanked and invited to do the same for the next issue of the Newsletter. It is suggested that photographs could be used to illustrate the articles. Furthermore it is suggested that Fendercare, and others firms, could be asked to write articles on relevant issues. It is necessary to reach out into industry: the more we publish, the better we are (Public Awareness!).

New Members

Several members of the AG report on their efforts to find more countries interested in active participation. In most cases the results are still disappointing, but the participation of Korea in the plenary meeting is a success for the Japanese actions. As some reactions on letters or other actions are still awaited, this topic will be discussed again at future meetings.

8 ITEMS SUBMITTED BY 17TH PLENARY MEETING

No items are officially submitted to the AG.

9 ANY OTHER ITEMS

It is noted that the Netherlands are no longer in the position to take care for the secretariat of ISO/TC 8 and the AG, and since no successors are known up to now the secretariat will be vacant by 1998-11-26. A possible transfer of files has to be discussed with the future secretariat, but in the mean time Mr.Hime will take care of the maintenance of some electronic"files", like the Status Report, the membership- and mailing list and a related ISO/TC 8 database.

Note secretariat:We are pleased to inform you that we received the following message from Mr.Koyama. Senior Managing Director Japan Marine Standards Association, shortly after the meeting:

"ISO/TC 8, as stated in its business plan, has been increasing its contribution to the IMO, international shipping, shipbuilding industries, etc., and is acquiring greater importance. Under these circumstances, in order to solve the issue of the successor to the secretariat of ISO/TC 8 and to secure ISO/TC 8's smooth administration, I would like to express that Japan is prepared to assume the responsibility of the ISO/TC 8's secretariat from the ISO/TC 8 plenary meeting (to be held in October 1999) and onward"
