Summary of the Presentation:
- They stated in their presentation the object of export documentation method by electronic commerce equipment.
- EXTEDI EDI messages and web-based electronic forms will be promoted to achieve the objective.
- The primary benefit that can be seen in each field, is the elimination of paperwork. The four main fields are:
1) Exporter/Importer/Agent/Broker
2) Shipping Line/Agent/Forwarder
3) Road/Rail Carriers
4) The Whole Community
- Through EXTEDI Maritime Exports, the main flow to the terminal is mostly coming from the Exporter, rather than the Broker or Forwarder. However, there is also a large amount of exports coming from the road and rail to the terminal.
- At the present time one can send export declarations to customs, but customs only wants to receive EDI messaging, but not E-Forms. However, the technology of the browser interface will possibly be enhanced to apply to imports and exports. This will occur in three stages:
1) Web-based
2) Forwarding Instruction, Bill of Lading data, Export Receival Advice
3) And later in June 1999, Booking and Confirmations will be made available, and can be asked for in a variety of forms, E-mail, E-form etc.
- An example of Diary Industry was given.
- The EDIMI-Maritime Imports system is currently being utilized.
- In the area of E-form based Internet Services, in all three areas: “Exportnet,” “Importnet” and “Paynet,” are all still presently being built.
Questions and Answers:
- There was a question raised about web-based Export documentation. It was concluded that it is their choice as to how they received the export. Each organization/member has to register, and on registration receives a password, which stops just anything being sent to just anyone.
- The issue of security then was raised. With registration one knows who they will be trading with and where the message is coming from, and if required one will be able to put data in cryptic form.
- Question about EDI Vehicle Booking Service in Australia.
Two companies implemented as follows:
1) P&O ports ---- require trucks to book a span of time, and arrive at port within that specific time to bring your truck in and pick up cargo.
2) Patrick Stevedore ---- a log onto service, which is interactive, non-EDI.
- The last question was in relation to, how one identifies the other party as a Tradegate member. Through the registration process within the bureau, that was mentioned previously, one logs in through the Internet with a password. Therefore even the small enterprise has to register with the bureau.
