The 35,758-dwt KOO YONG was delivered in November 1996 to Pacific Emerald, S.A. by Hashihama Shipbuilding Co., Ltd./Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. as a product carrier.
The vessel is of double-hull, double-bottom structure that satisfies the U.S. Oil Pollution Act of 1990.
Cargo oil tank space is divided into eight (8) compartments with transverse bulkheads, i.e., five (5) center cargo oil tanks, two (2) cargo oil tanks each divided into two (2) tanks with center line longitudinal bulkheads and two (2) slop tanks.
The cargo handling system of four (4) segregation groups is installed. Cargo oil is handled by four (4) electric motor driven cargo oil pumps (1,000m3/h x 120m T.H. x 2 sets, and 500m3/h x 120m T.H. x 2 sets) with self stripping devices.
Emergency towing equipment is arranged along with vapor emission control system and inerting system for water ballast tanks.
