When IHI and NYK made a contract to build two new container ships, of which the main engine was DU 11RTA96C, NSD, DU, IHI and NYK agreed to hold “Development Committee” meetings”.
Only a minimal time scale of a year and a half had been set aside for the phases of design and production.
(2) Technical walk through of design details
As there were many details involved in this study, committee meetings were actually held more than ten times, versus the normal one or two meetings in other projects.
Some of the specifications were discussed.
(3) To check quality of production
IHI and NYK visited more than 30 subcontract factories in order to inspect parts and quality control.
Balance Betwen Reliability and Economy
