The new DK series engines make it possible to operate on heavy oil with low load at mean effective pressure of 0.4 MPa. Low load operation is improved by making the following factors higher; compression ratio, injection pressure and T/C efficiency. In addition to these measures the fuel nozzle is optimised. There was very little carbon deposit in the charge air passage and turbo-charger nozzles after low load test on heavy fuel oil at the factory. The test results confirm that sure there is nothing to stop low load operation on heavy oil.

LOW LOAD OPERATION LIMIT ON HEAVY FUEL

Fuel oil

Vis. ≦ 700 cSt at 50℃

CCAI ≦ 850

After continuous operation at 20% load, the engine must be operated at ≧ 60% load for more then 30 min.

7-3 VIBRATION AND NOISE

Vibration and noise levels are kept to a minimum by controlling the combustion, and clearance between cylinder liner and piston. Robust and highly rigid engine frame, cylinderhead and liner also contributes in lowering noise and vibration levels inspite of high output and high combustion pressure. In order to make further reduction of noise level, the data analysis on noise is made according to octave band.

Noise and vibration from engine room, particularly at hotel installations, depends to a large extend on the initial sounds vibrating through foundation.

3DK-20 is provided with a balancer to counter imbalance force, thereby successfully making the vibration level same as that of 6 cylinder DK-20.
