7-1 NOx EMISSION
New DK series engines clear the limit for NOx set by IMO as shown in Fig. with the employment of the following factors :
─ HIGH STROKE/ BORE RATIO FOR HIGH COMPRESSION RATIO
─ IDEAL FORM FOR COMBUSTION CHAMBER
─ HIGH PRESSURE FUEL INJECTION IN A SHORT PERIOD
─ COMBINATION OF EFFICIENT, HIGH PRESSURE T/C WITH D.S.P.
The measurement for further reduction of NOx will be applied after continuous basic study confirms the effectiveness.
7-2 LOW LOAD OPERATION
In the low load range, engines operating on heavy fuel oil face pool combustion because of insufficient mixing of fuel with air and low temperature.
Incomplete combustion generates carbon left-over deposited in the combustion chamber and T/C.
