1. INTRODUCTION
Daihatsu Diesel Mfg. Co., Ltd. has developed medium speed engines meeting the demands of the market and has gained high reputation amongst users. Daihatsu has a supplied total of 25,000 units of PS, DS and DL series engines so far.
The market further demands low fuel consumption and heavy oil capability, while the shipping industry has faced serious problems, such as aging labour force,a scaresly of good engineers,skilled personnel. The main demand of today, lies in improving working conditions in ships by introducing highly reliable engines free from maintenance. Moreover, it is necessary for the industry to deal with environmental problems, such as reducing NOx emissions and to meet these demands, a new DK series has been developed. Hereby introduced is outline of new DK series.
