RECOMMENDED ACTIONS FOR SUCCESFUL IMPLEMENTATION OF HIGH PRIORITY
1. Entire road/bridge sections should be constructed/upgraded up to the year 2003.
In 2003, the Mukdahan-Savannakhet Bridge will be open and the Phenom Penh-HCM City road project ADB will be completed. By then, the road/bridges sections are to be constructed and upgraded so as to become seamless corridors. For this purpose, key sections include:
Thailand: New alignment sections (380 km in total) between Mukdahan and Laem Chabang
Vietnam: Some sections to be rehabilitated and upgraded between Dong Ha and Lao Bao
Cambodia: Some sections to be rehabilitated and upgraded between Sisophon and Phnom Penh
2. Port expansion and operation improvement is a must to handle containerized cargo and transit cargo at Danang and Saigon port areas efficiently
3. Strategic inland transport terminals should be designed and constructed at the two urban growth poles (UG 8: Siemreap-Battambang and UG 10: Savannakhet-Thakhet-Mukdahan
4. Frontier facilities at cross-borders should be improved and expanded at the four points: (1) Lao Bao-Ba Dong (Vietnam-Laos), (2) Savannakhet-Mukdahan (Laos-Thai), (3) Moc Bai-Bavet (Vietnam-Cambodia), (4) Poipet-Aranyaprathet (Cambodia-Thai)
