KRU As brothers, Norman, Yusry and Edry have the advantage of knowing and understanding each brother's nature of work without much extra effort. This facilitated the formation of the group KRU that is "crew" in Bahasa Malaysia which means the brothers are solely responsible for their music.
Their unique recipe in music alleviated them right to the top of the local music industry. Despite the divergence from the norm, in terms of both music and image, the boys were comfortably welcomed and accepted by our society. They were observed as the pioneer of R&B, G Funk and Rap in the local musical field, and dubbed as singers with a difference.
Their creativity in both music production and performance is widely acknowledged throughout the nation. These ladd had managed to unite the old and the new, using the latest technology, when they had a duet with the late P. Ramlee performing the evergreen song 'Getaran Jiwa', which was a massive hit in the sixties.
Even though their main followers are mostly from the younger generation, they are also very much loved by the older generation, because as singers, they managed to keep scandals or bad gossips at bay. In addition, they hold a reputation as ones that are hard working and dedicated to that which they commit themselves to. Hence, they are regarded as role models for our future leaders.
Their distinction in music has been widely recognised and acknowledged by the local music lovers. Their success is rather conspicuous, but as ambitious as they are, they aim to climb up higher and with divine intervention, these boys will hopefully be known to the rest of the world.
Credit for KRU's excellence in music is very much owed to their parents who nurtured their interest at the delicate age of seven, six and four, respectively. Starting off as just extra lessons after school hours, the three young boys soon realised their love for music, and appreciated it as a gift that could be evaluated to a higher level. During their teen years, they were exposed to foreign pop music from the United States of America and England. The three lads were then big followers of Depeche Mode, Duran Duran and Pet Shop Boys and were constantly analysing these groups' advancement in the music industry.
Today, KRU is inevitably the most popular pop group in Malaysia. They have released 9 albums to-date, starred in 2 movies 'Awas' and 'Cinta Metropolitan' and received awards in the Malaysian Music Industry Awards such as in the Best Group Vocal Performance, Most Popular Group and Best Engineered Album categories since 1994. Their music videos also swept the Best Artiste Performance, Best Direction, Best Editing, Best Photography, Best Music Video and Best Art Direction awards in the Video M Awards in 1997 and KR∪ was a finalist in the MTV Asia Viewer's Choice Award in the same year.
