4 Provide Methods for Self-Development
It is important that bosses introduce work-related materials and books, share information from outside seminars and lectures, teach their staff about effective methods of self-development, and always try to raise staff motivation towards self-improvement.
5 Create an Atmosphere in the Office Where there is a Respect for Learning
Bosses should consciously create an atmosphere in the office where there is a respect for learning, through study circles, presentations of research results, etc. In addition to this, it is also essential to hold consultations whenever necessary, with each individual member of staff who is making efforts towards personal growth.
6 Evaluate Staff Development
Supervisors should recognize the results of staffs development efforts, and not ignore them. If supervisors consider applying these results to the job, staff will be motivated even further. This process may also help staff to identify and set new goals for the future.
7 Supervisor should Lead by Example
Self-development is not something that may be forced upon a person. It must come from within. Supervisors who encourage their staff to improve themselves but make no effort themselves are unlikely to convince their staff. It is important for supervisors to set good practical examples. Their own enthusiasm may influence and motivate their staff to do likewise.
