4-17 Praising & Reprimanding

Everybody is happy to be appreciated. Verbal appreciation of work performance will provide employees with a sense of job satisfaction and they will feel a level of pride in their job. It is important for supervisors to praise their employees in order to develop them.

As the saying goes, "You can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink." Unless employees have the motivation to improve themselves, guidance will be to no avail. Supervisors must lead their staff in a way that will develop their self-motivation, assist them where necessary and develop themselves together at the same time.

(Discussion Point)

・If supervisors are to motivate employees to develop themselves, what points should they take care of ?
